Marginalia recording date and location from a copy of The Observer’s Book of British Wild Flowers. The publisher has not provided a date of publication in the book, but this second
title in the ‘Pocket Series’ first appeared in 1937, three years before the initial record. The owner has inscribed his name (illegibly) on the fly-leaf—dated 30th April 1940—two months after he began supplementing the pages with his records.
Two hundred species of plant are illustrated and described, one per page, of which eighty-two are indicated as having been observed on these one hundred and fourteen different occasions.
